THE BOOK OF GENESIS NOTES (1) “IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH.” The structure is: 1. “In the beginning” refers to the beginning of creation, or at least the creation as it refers to this universe. 2. The phrase, “In the beginning God,” explains the cause of all things as it regards creation. 3. Moses does not attempt to prove the existence of God, knowing that creation itself is proof enough. 4. “The heaven and the Earth” could be translated “the heavens and the Earth,” because
